Paper at <a href=\"https:\/\/nordregio.org\/events\/ethnography-beyond-the-case-study-possibilities-and-limitations-of-comparison\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">InfraNorth Workshop &#8220;Ethnography Beyond the Case Study: Possibilities and Limitations of Comparison&#8221;<\/a>, Stockholm, Sweden: Nordregio, 10-11 September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Introduction<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement written by the Executive Committee of the European Association of Social Anthropologists on \u201cWhy anthropology matters\u201d in 2015, comparison is defined as a \u201csystematic search\u201d for sociocultural similarities and differences, with the objective of developing \u201cgeneral insights into the nature of society and human existence\u201d (EASA, 2015). Together with ethnography and contextualization, comparison constitutes a fundamental element of the \u201canthropological triangle,\u201d as defined by Roger Sanjek (1998, p. 193).
